Using the Assisi Loop & Assisi Lounge at Home: A Guide for Pet Owners

At Rehab 4 PAWS & Integrative Therapy, we are always looking for ways to support your pet’s healing journey both inside and outside the clinic. One of the tools we frequently recommend for at-home support is the Assisi Loop® or Assisi Lounge®, a safe, non-invasive therapy designed to help reduce inflammation and promote healing!

These devices can be an excellent addition to your pet’s recovery plan, especially for pets dealing with pain, injuries or chronic conditions.

What Is the Assisi Loop or Assisi Lounge?

The Assisi Loop and Assisi Lounge are veterinary medical devices that use targeted pulsed electromagnetic field (tPEMF™) therapy to help support healing and reduce inflammation.

  • Assisi Loop – A portable circular device placed directly around a specific area of the body (such as a joint or surgical site).
  • Assisi Lounge – A comfortable therapy mat that delivers the same technology across a larger area of the body.

Both devices are commonly recommended for pets recovering from surgery, managing arthritis, healing from injuries or dealing with chronic inflammatory conditions.

In this video, Autumn talks about it and how to use it:

How Does It Work?

The Assisi Loop and Lounge work using targeted pulsed electromagnetic field therapy (tPEMF).

This technology helps stimulate the body’s natural anti-inflammatory response by influencing cellular signaling. When inflammation decreases, pets may experience:

  • Reduced pain and swelling
  • Improved comfort and mobility
  • Faster healing after injuries or surgery
  • Support for chronic conditions such as arthritis

The treatment is completely non-invasive, painless and does not require sedation. Most pets simply relax during their session!

Conditions the Assisi Loop May Help Support

Your veterinarian or rehabilitation team may recommend the Assisi device for pets experiencing:

  • Post-surgical inflammation
  • Arthritis and joint pain
  • Soft tissue injuries
  • Intervertebral disc disease (IVDD) support
  • Wounds or swelling
  • Chronic inflammatory conditions

While it is not a replacement for veterinary care, it can be a valuable supportive therapy alongside rehabilitation, medications or other treatments.

How to Use the Assisi Loop at Home

Using the Assisi Loop at home is simple and typically only takes 15 minutes per session.

  1. Place the Loop Around the Affected Area
Position the loop so the injured or inflamed area is centered within the circle. It can rest directly on the fur or over a light bandage.
  2. Keep Your Pet Comfortable
Your pet can lie down, sit, or relax during treatment. Many pets nap during sessions.
  3. Press the Power Button
Each session runs automatically for about 15 minutes.
  4. Follow Your Veterinarian’s Instructions
Most pets receive 2–4 sessions per day, depending on their condition and treatment plan.

The device will automatically shut off when the session is complete.

How to Use the Assisi Lounge

The Assisi Lounge works a little differently because it is designed like a therapeutic bed.

To use it:

  • Place the Lounge on a comfortable surface where your pet normally rests.
  • Allow your pet to lie or sit on the mat during treatment.
  • Start the session using the control unit.
  • Sessions typically last 15 minutes.

Because the Lounge covers a larger area, it is especially helpful for pets with arthritis, back pain or full-body discomfort.

Tips for Successful At-Home Sessions

To get the most benefit from Assisi therapy at home:

✔ Keep sessions consistent and follow your prescribed schedule
✔ Use the device in a calm, comfortable environment
✔ Pair treatments with your pet’s regular rehab exercises or rest periods
✔ Monitor your pet’s progress and report any concerns to your veterinary team

Consistency is key – regular treatments often lead to the best results!

Important Contraindications to Consider

While the Assisi Loop and Assisi Lounge are generally safe to use for over common orthopedic surgical implants (like plates or screws,) it should never be used directly over a pacemaker or in the immediate area of a known tumor. They should be used with caution or avoid use over growth plates in young and growing animals. They should not be used on pregnant animals.

When to Contact Your Rehab Team

If you have questions about using your Assisi Loop or Lounge, or if your pet’s condition changes, our team is always here to help.

At Rehab 4 PAWS & Integrative Therapy, we work closely with pet owners to create recovery plans that continue at home. Tools like the Assisi Loop allow healing support to continue between therapy visits.

Your dedication plays an important role in helping your pet regain comfort, strength and mobility!
